I’m Spiritual, Not Religious

Spiritual but not Religious! So many millennials think Church is unnecessary and Religion is corrupt. American culture especially is skeptical of authority. But I think running away from formalized Religion is the most ignorant, foolish thing. We NEED Churches and I encourage you to become part of one!

  1. For the people who say they're spiritual but not religious, I like to ask them a simple question: What do you think Heaven is like? It's everyone who loves God coming together to worship Him. Jesus established the Church here on Earth because He created us to be social creatures. No man is an island. We were meant to worship in community, not in isolation.
That's why Paul said we're all part of the body of Christ. Each part has its own unique function, and they must work together for the body to function. So it is with the Church and its members.

Also, church is where we learn more about the faith, not just in the abstract, but in terms of how to apply it to our everyday lives. Lizzie is absolutely right that it requires a certain amount of pride and arrogance to think one can understand scripture and the faith better than priests and pastors who've spent their entire lives studying it. That's why they exist, to help us grow spiritually.

If religion is bad, why did Jesus say "upon this rock I will build my church", and "the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it?" Religion brings us closer to God. We just need humble and holy leaders who spiritually inspire & guide us. Without religion, we would all be trying to interpret the Bible on our own, and would all just be stumbling and bumbling in the dark. Jesus gave us the Church b/c He knew we needed moral and spiritual guidance to illuminate the way forward and help us understand His truth. My generation has conflated bad church leaders w/ religion, and the Church as a whole itself. We need to make the difference clear. There will always be bad people in the Church b/c there will always be bad people. But they don't reflect the Church as a whole. Every institution has bad people. Congress is filled w/ them. Do we say "Let's get rid of congress"? No. We should say "Let's replace the bad members of congress with better ones, but in the meantime, make the best of what we have". It's the same with the Church. If we use all the spiritual tools the Church gives us,as Pope John Paul 2 did as a youth, we too can become holy.

  2. The word religion comes from word religio (forget what language) which means "to link back." We need the Bible and church traditions/rituals to help us link to God. Endless one gives up the worldly life to pursue enlightenment, live in the wilderness, and bring back a new way to follow and know God one's cannot just walk through life with an abstract idea of God. Psychologically speaking it's near impossible to personally know God by one's self in ones own personal life. In order to do this you need to leave the world and "find yourself". But even then it would be handy to have have a Bible in hands plus anything else to guide you.
This is why many faiths of the world having take hundreds of years to build up into social structures that serve as platforms for a way of life that directs you to the eternal. Christianity took the entire living years of Jesus' life to begin, and even then the apostles, after Jesus went to heaven, still had work to do to build up the faith. In the Catholic religion alone the saints have added useful faith knowledge and ways of life to the catholic faith. And to this day people are still learning in all religions.

  3. I've had to stop watching at quotes from the bible: but the word 'religion' comes from a combination of Latin & Greek. Latin "reli-" bit meaning 'to bind', and Greek "-gion" bit meaning 'son'. Therefore a 'binding to the son'; making all religions patriarchal.

So when someone says "spiritual rather than religious"; what they mean is that they are other than patriarchal.

  4. I was raised catholic and i came out of her.
    Reasons:
Do they teach OSAS or keep the commandments and trough our mother church you shall be saved. (Or even some other denominations teach tremble and work out your salvation to be sure ur saved which leads to selfrighteousness).
They knee down to statue of Mary, and i really dont like it!
I confess my sins to Heavinly Father, not to a man in black robe (unneccessary mediator).
Jesus said: spiritual meaning: dont call anyone father, cuz you have one Father and He is in Heaven (holy father pope francis, his holiness, vicarivs filii dei:count roman numbers, and other labels).
    Purgatory is unbiblical.
History of vatican and its catholic church has killed many people since foundation.

  5. I am neither spiritual or religious. I have yet to hear a coherent and consistent definition for the word "spiritual"… just vague, nebulous, fuzzy ideas that vary greatly depending on who you ask.

  6. How can it be valuable or have value when everyone applies different and arbitrary properties, definitions to god? The fact that there are different religions and different sects in all of them with different views only supports that the idea of god is completely subjective.

  7. Liked and subscribed.. don't like saying subbed because I don't submit to anyone lol… Well unless it's fantasy roleplay heheheh

FYI, Jesus didn't establish any formal church… it's a lie from those that came after Jesus. History and the Bible itself backs this up. Look into Gnostics to pick up some bread crumbs.

The Bible is quite clear to pray in private and to not flaunt your faith in the way the abomination called Modern Christianity does. Association is good but also leads to fronting a false image of yourself and believing other people false image they want to project but do not walk the walk.

6:20 concerning your statements of different perspectives based on age and various walks of life:
One could almost say it's like a wheel with eyes all around the rim that moves in all directions… one could say that.  😉

  8. The Divine is not a religion, nor is it theology. or even doctrine. Beyond all of that. Way bigger than all of that. We are not these categories people mention.
Man's writings cant even come close. Just as you have an earthly father and mother that literally created you and your 100% literally part of?
That's how much you literally, are also the Divine, that much a part of it, even one drop of the ocean is also the ocean, one drop of golden sunlight, is also the Sun.
See philosopher Alan Watts for the rest. He explains how life really works, and I mean goes way beyond doctrine/theology etc, Just my suggestions, Namaste.

  9. I love your boat analogy! It makes me think not just of Noah’s Ark but also of the “Barque of Peter”. Jesus protected Peter’s boat and the apostles in the stormy Sea of Galilee and He protects His church which is built upon the rock that is Peter. And on Peter’s barque we can weather any storm. Amazing Lizzie… I think you’re great❣️😘

  10. Worship is a collective activity. Loners who don't share their faith tend to have radical beliefs because they don't have a community to balance their beliefs with. It is an irrational and impractical copout.

  11. I agree with seeking your elders or other people of your faith–whatever that faith is–to get certain perspectives. But, to me personally, hierarchically-structured, organized religion seems like trying to get to know someone solely based on the opinions of a mutual friend rather than sitting down one-on-one with that other person and forming your own relationship without the middleman involved. Bishop John Shelby Spong said it best: "The idea that God can be bound by any human system, by any human creed, by any human book, is absurd. God is not a Christian. God is not a Jew or a Muslim or a Hindu or a Buddhist. These are all human systems that we've created to help us walk further into the mystery of God."
But, that's just me. If going to church floats your boat and helps you personally connect with the Divine, by all means go and have an awesome time. Blessed be. + )O(

  12. I think you're missing what people mean by 'spiritual but not religious'. Most of the time people come to that conclusion because they don't accept the personification of God laid down by the Christian (or any religion they've been exposed to) worldview. Its not as if either Christians are right and god exists, or there is no god. God can exist and the bible/Christian understanding can also be a completely unrelated to her (not saying that's the case). The two don't automatically go hand in hand. The Christian idea of God is but one in a immeasurable sea of concepts of God. Being spiritual but not religious means you haven't yet found a religion that has personification of God matches your experience of God.

  13. IM SPIRITUAL ? Now.
The new thing. I'm no longer Christian; I'm more spiritual now. Amazing how people who were never really converted in the first place repeat this phrase enough and weak minded individuals jump on the bandwagon and make a video on YouTube. 🙄Claiming to just be spiritual now is merely an excuse for people who don't go to church, don't demonstrate the fruits of the spirit ,and don't allow their light to shine before men for the world to see there set apart from this cheap influential world.
Its an excuse that's used so no one can see the expectations in you the way you can in a Real Christian. It's trendy and weak.
BUT EXPECTED! The Bible is still the only book that dares to predict the future with stunning accuracy. Scripture predicted the there would be a great falling away. KJV.. this must happen in the last days before the coming of the Lord. People are simply fulfilling prophecy not knowing or really more so not caring that this position of shame; God said if they be ashamed of HIM and HIS word that HE would be ashamed of them in judgment in front of HIS father and all the host of angels. Matthew 10:32-33 KJV.
So, choose whom ye will serve this day. KJV ..
OR follow every new wind of doctrine and fall away…..
    Talking bout you woke… smh.
JESUS is who HE said HE is!
( even (if) I'm pronouncing HIS NAME wrong! HE judges my TRUE motives actions intentions ( that men can't see) and DONT UNDERSTAND JUDGMENT.
    Job 32:9
Our standing before God depends, not upon the amount of light we have received, but upon the use we make of what we have. Thus even the heathen who choose
the right as far as they can distinguish it are in a more favorable condition than are those who have had great light, and profess to serve God, but who
disregard the light, and by their daily life contradict their profession.
It is a perilous step to slight the reproofs and warnings of God’s word or of His Spirit. Many, like Saul, yield to temptation until they become blind to the true character of sin. They flatter themselves that they have had some good object in view, and have done no wrong in departing from the Lord’s requirements. Thus they do despite to the Spirit of grace, until its voice is no longer heard, and they are left to the delusions which they have chosen.
“Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.” Rebellion originated with Satan, and all rebellion against God is directly due to satanic influence. Those who set themselves against the government of God have entered into an alliance with the archapostate, and he will exercise his power and cunning to captivate the senses and mislead the understanding. He will cause everything to appear in a false light. Like our first parents, those who are under his bewitching spell see only the great benefits to be received by transgression.
“To obey is better than sacrifice.” The sacrificial offerings were in themselves of no value in the sight of God. They were designed to express on the part of the offerer penitence for sin and faith in Christ and to pledge future obedience to the law of God. But without penitence, faith, and an obedient heart, the offerings were worthless. When, in direct violation of God’s command, Saul proposed to present a sacrifice of that which God had devoted to destruction, open contempt was shown for the divine authority. The service would have been an insult to Heaven. Yet with the sin of Saul and its result before us, how many are pursuing a similar course. While they refuse to believe and obey some requirement of the Lord, they persevere in offering up to God their formal services of religion. There is no response of the Spirit of God to such service. No matter how zealous men may be in their observance of religious ceremonies, the Lord cannot accept them if they persist in willful violation of one of His commands.
Those who are most ready to excuse or justify themselves in sin are often most severe in judging and condemning others. Many, like Saul, bring upon themselves the displeasure of God, but they reject counsel and despise reproof. Even when convinced that the Lord is not with them, they refuse to see in themselves the cause of their trouble. They cherish a proud, boastful spirit, while they indulge in cruel judgment or severe rebuke of others who are better than they. Well would it be for such self-constituted judges to ponder those words of Christ: “With what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.”

  14. Hi Lizzie,
it is clear to me you get something out of religion that you are not getting out of spirituality. You appear to have some unresolved anger and resentment towards people who have a stronger sense of spirituality than religion. Your description that you think people 'running away from formalized religion is the most ignorant, foolish thing' is not a kind, compassionate response to people who may be struggling. Everyone differs in their experiences with both of these. You base your entire argument off of your own experience, and little of other's experiences. I only heard you talk about you, but not what the spiritual-oriented folks had to say. I'm curious to know more about people who are spiritual but not religious, that's why I youtubed this topic.
-from a witch, deeply religious, and spiritual.

  15. Faith is gullibility you could take anything on faith. The 911 hijackers thought they will doing the will of God when they crashed the planes into the world trade. I don't see how it's a good thing there is nothing the church can offer you that can't be achieved by secular means.

  16. I feel like I am both religious and a Christian.. the thing with me I live by my spirit I let my spirit guide and when I fall my spirit tells and pick me back up.. I believe you should go to church and socialize with other Christians but you don’t have to because of what people tell you but by what the spirit tells you..

  17. The kingdom of god is within you, you dont need to go to church to get to know god. When we pray who do you pray too?? You're speaking within yourself.. we are a mirror reflection of god. The way he created us, we create our own universe. Our belief is what shapes your reality. The whole point of jesus coming to earth was to set an example for humanity. Show the world what we are capable of, to accept one another and love one another no matter the flaws the lie within your subconscious mind. Spirituality is following the message religion is following the messenger. I apply jesus teaches into my life and I'm soo grateful to finally see the world without filters. Let people believe in what ever they choose. Spiritual people dont impose their beliefs onto others, they dont judge you for your bad deeds or the way you present yourself to the world. For if they were to it would be like doing it to themselves. We are all made of 1, we are like god creating our life by our thoughts, beliefs, and actions.

  18. This little girl lacks depth in her understanding of the depths of life in Christ Jesus, and the profound freedom that relationship brings. When someone upholds institutional religion as the means by which the theological grounding comes into play within the Christian life, that is when I realize that ignorance is yet again clothed in the attractive garb of secular culture. The spiritual midgets that institutional religion turns out into the streets of cities all around the world each week, and who then turn around and down-play, and sometimes outright mock, others for not attending and supporting what they see as being the place where they get their spiritual and theological feeding, they tend to do so without an understanding of just how foolish they are. There are many a spiritual giant walking this earth who cause the vast majority of institutional, hireling pastors, by contrast, to pale into the insignificance they deserve. They always talk much about their "calling" into the "ministry." Frankly, they hobble around on their crutches along with those who follow them, never casting aside those crutches of institutional weaknesses, and they CERTAINLY don't ever set foot out into the blast furnace of that wilderness out there to be tested for what they're really made of. They fear knowing, and so they stick to what is familiar so that they can fade into the woodwork when they don't feel so spiritual or relevant. They speak much about the "fellowship" within their "church", and yet they can somehow do that while looking at the backs of each other's heads. I can walk into amost any one of those places and ask about the man or woman across the way, and about that person's greatest joys or deepest sorrows, and they won't have a clue. Cathedral organs don't make up for the severe lack in those places. That's not to say there is a perfect expression, but defending the inferior as if it beats down all other alternatives, that is what I would say is akin to the mark of the beast….dare I use that terminology loosely.

  19. I am neither spiritual or religious based on most common definitions. I find the word 'spiritual' especially useless as it's such a vague and nebulous term that means an endless variety of things depending on who you ask.

  20. If you look into the history of African religions you will see that we started off being spiritual until the white men came and stole from us and told us our ways where evil.

Then later on when we became slaves we weren’t treated like our own person but an extinction of our “master” and because of that plus not having access to proper education we adopted christianity.

There’s a reason when you go to the south people tend to automatically believe all the black people are Christians, it’s because that’s what our ancestors where told to be.

  21. spirituality but not religious stupid

what this means is.. ya'll actually see religion as trash deep down. and dont want to be associated with its evils.. yet still believe the same book… so its a "cop out" when christains all of the overall same faith.. where some say "yea butt im not like them.. because im spirituality but not religious"

history lesson.. spirituality and religious.. are SYNONYMOUS WORDS.. they have been use the same for 1000's of years.. UNTIL VERY RECENT MODERN HISTORY..

so how on non existent gods green earth.. are these two words now different because ya'll claim they are different… again… two words that literally meant the same thing..

spiritual = religious thats the reality…. im not buying it this "spirituality but not religious" because people decided to "FEEL" and want to dissociate from religion that has so many negative and evil shit happen cause of it..
it just makes ya'll bad Christians… im sorry.. butt im not complaining… the less ya'll adhere and the more ya'll dissociate with it.. the faster god fades away via the next gen… 😎
