Hi Steve. Art is the way we humans express ourselves. We are indeed hardwired for such outward expressions of our creativity. As earlt as 51,000 years ago in Indonesia man has found a way to communicate, tell stories and express himself to others. That is a major example of how similar we are. When I started teaching myself to play the violin, I had to learn music theory as well. This led me to become familiar with several composers over the course of six months. I ended up taking a fancy to Vivaldi and the culture of his time. Now, every time we go into a Hobby Lobby I see this print of a Venice canal and I am flooded with notes from the violin and sounds of the ports people and I am somehow transported to the 1500's. This is my example of the power of art. I write poetry with the proverbial brush and I hope that one day, someone will be affected in the same way that I am affected by the Hobby Lobby Venice print.
I agree with you about the creator God. Also art reaches beyond the written and spoken language to access the emotional and psychological inner world of both the maker and the viewer and to bring yourself closer to God. We visit the Cincinnati art museum quite often and we are also collectors of a lot of art by local artists in various mediums. I also have some original 18th century engravings by William Hogarth. Art poetry and literature and the performing arts are a big part of my life. Cheers Ron
I think we, as humans, are attracted to beauty and design in all things. I am glad thats the case and I hope that continues. I also think mundane things, cookware, armor, cars, things we need to use, become easier to use if you actually LIKE using them and a simple way to do that is just make them pretty!
