It took me 45ish years to come across hermeticism. When i did, it was like a form of confirmation of many things I'd come to understand or hypothesize on my own. I know this is the case for many others. I've always thought of how any single destination can be reached through many different paths, and truth is a destination. The things hermeticism describes are truths that through my own lived experiences and observations i found my way to. Not all of it of course, but when i listen it is like an expansion of all the things i had seen in life, mind, me, reality. To know that so long ago there were people who had already learned these truths is mind boggling. Because today we are gifted with the ability to learn from modern science and technology, which do aid us in understanding reality. But back then, they didnt have that.. yet they still landed on the same truths that we do. That can only mean one thing, that it is indeed truth.
