A viewer named “Falcon” asked me to explore this topic on a previous video. You’ve probably heard people describe themselves as “Spiritual” but NOT “Religious”. What does this mean? Is it possible to separate these two ideas? How do we define what they mean? I often hear people talking this way in response to the idea of participating in “organized religion” in favor of a more personalized, customized understanding of a greater reality. I consider myself a Christian. But I cannot be a member of a group that believes that God will burn people alive for all eternity because I do not believe that version of God exists. The Greeks added their own mythology to the New Testament from Plato's ideas of Heaven and Hell. Jesus did not believe that. I know too much about the history of the NT to embrace what almost all Christian churches believe in. God's plan of salvation cannot fail. Which is why I am SBNR.

You were right @ some point, but, still far from the truth, while some people denied, the fact that ones anyone mentions God, prey or do a ritual; connects with a spirit; God is a spirit & so are we, but incarnated, that would be the spiritual, based on that relation, but, that relation can be with other spirits as well, simply put, his other children or creations, now in spirits (heaven) or (hell) ; the angels, archangels, saints, spirits of light, etc,. an example of that direct spiritual relationship; the spitualist, medium or witches, read books of Allen Kardek.
These are groundless assertions. You may be right, but utterly nless you can back up your assertions with evidence no one's going to take any notice of you if you simply say "I think that…"

My term of spiritual is not about no one telling me how to live my life “ultimately we all have free will “ humans made it seems as if we had to do religion my journey in spirituality is me getting direction solely from the universe and higher power. Not to knock anyone, just my journey in my body and my life I can’t speak or live for anyone else. As a proterstant I'm kinda sick of the "vain repatition" argument from other proterstants against our catholic brothers in christ. Repeating holy prayers in the name of the father, son and holy spirit is repetition but it isn't vain. The passage about vain repetition is not saying repetitive preyer in and of itself is bad. Repetative preyers to other gods is vain and repetiteve preyers that aren't from the heart is in vain. If Jesus was condeming all repetitive preyer he wouldn't have qualifide it by saying "vain repetition" he would have just said "repatition".

Yes Protestants to attack Catholics for vain repetition but they are the ones that are doing the vain repetition when they pray for their jet airplanes in the Rolex watches, instead of praying once and believing God they keep repeating it. Now the repetition that the Catholics do is Glory bees hail Marys and our fathers these are prayers of worship and can be repeated over and over again because this is not vain repetition these are prayers of worship.. as far as the word religious well there is good and bad to every word there is good religious and bad religious what is bad religious not believing in the Trinity not believing that Jesus is god.. if you look in the dictionary religious is explained as a good word so these Protestants have been applying that to the Catholic faith I guess they believe they can change the dictionary..

This video, to say the least, is very misleading or naive, it does nothing to say what spiritual really is and yet it will attract condemnation from people who scoff at those that say "Spiritual" but NOT "Religious".
The most important is to be honestly connected to God and that is only possible for certain awaken people. If you want to be with God , but are mixed with those who are not ready to do that in religious institutions, then there’s no point to go to those institutions. Only being by yourself can people get awaken and truly connect to God. That’s why being spiritual is better than being religious.
I didn't like this video because you actually don't get it. You think that you know, and you're pushing your own narrative, but it doesn't really fit for me or many others. I would recommend checking out the YouTube video "Spiritual Not Religious – Thomas Keating" for those who feel unsatisfied with this video or slightly want different way of viewing this topic/idea.

Although this was posted 4 years ago I really needed that questioned answered. I watched a video of someone who said they don't believe in God and that they live thier life spiritually. Yeah, spiritually in sin. It didn't sit with me well, and now I was blessed by running into this video that you posted Keith. 99% of religious leaders are complete frauds who are only interested in membership and tithes. I don't agree with what this guy says at all. Why people become spiritual and not religious anymore is that the three biggest religions claim to worship the same God but have hated each other for thousands of years and have killed each other in the same God's name. Add on that, myriads of denominations claiming to interpret the Bible properly, many denominations saying theirs is the only true denomination. THAT is why many honest hearted people are pushed away from the train wreckage.
I read the Bible and I try to practice what I learned in my daily life. I don't go to church but I respect those who do. I open-minded to learn their interpretation and refer to the gospel on whether or not it fits.

You dont have a clue. Being spiritual to me means living honestly. Telling the truth living with faith. Too many christians conflate faith with . i have nothing against except that everything thats true about jesus is true for you. There are things in the bible that make zero sense and have obviously been added or twusted over time. The idea of a war against God. Such a thing is impossible. But we can pretend its true. The ego with our personal point of view and seeming conection with a discrete body leads us to believe we are separate from God that he is in heaven while we are on the earth and that because we are not perfect that means God cannot stand our presence unless we accept that jesus paid for our sins we are separated and will be forever. This is a toxic teaching you cannot and never have been separated from your creator except in your beliefs. But never in reality. There is much evil done in the idea that we are alone that our ego is who we are .so we grab everything and force control on others so we can try and feel safe and compete we can only feel safe and complete when we surrender our egos and will to that power that diety that creates everything and everyone constantly. God didnt just set things in motion and walk off to heaven. That force will never force its will on us but if we submit to it we feel connected to life the earth and each other and God. And when we live by principles of peace love hope honesty mercy commpassion helpfulness ect our lives are filled with joy and meaning . A religious code or doctrine asks you to believe it under penalty of eternal punishment. And while there are hells we put ourselves there and God can pull us out .its arrogant and wrong to think that people who claim faith without an organized religion are lost or untoughtful or in danger of losing their soul. There is much wrong with organized religion and knowing that is ok and we should think for ourselves

I was a Christian but the more I read the Bible the more I believe that the story of Jesus was later added to the religion of Judaism and they called it the Old and New Testament. So Christianity is the only truth? So before the death of Jesus that means Judaism was the only true religion since Jesus did not die yet but as soon as Jesus died Judaism suddenly became a false religion and you will go to hell if you believe in Judaism? Jesus was asked by the wealthy man what do I need for eternal life and Jesus says follow the commandments and reads off the last 6 but says nothing about the first 4 which are about the worship of the Hebrew God. Also Jesus says to this man nothing about worshiping him.
Not really true…being spiritual means so much……There are 45000 different Christian religions……you follow the 10 commandments….you repent sins…..but don't follow church doctrine….like pathway to God is through Jesus Christ is not the only way……or having close connection to family through spiritual prayer.accepting other people's spiritual religions as valid…..Trusting God's words through the spirit…..from one Christian church or the Bible of many unknown writings ect…
I am a Deist Different religions have different rituals in their doctrine that I don't agree with. Without being bound to a religion I am free to love everyone and have an open mind.
The Christian pays and prays their lives trying to avoid a hell they blindly live in already. The spiritual has been through hell, been there done that and moved on.

People build a conflict where none should exist. Spirituality isn’t in conflict w religion, they should be complimentary and intertwined, one leading to the other & vis versa.
Thank you for explaining this so well. I grew up Catholic but stepped away from my faith and identified as "spiritual but not religious" for most of my adult life. Because of this, I understand the appeal of wanting to define your own spirituality and living by your own rules, but for me this approach never allowed me to find any solid ground. Thankfully I had an encounter with Christ last year which brought me back to him and the Catholic Church. Having clear guidelines on how to live my life according to God's will is actually surprisingly freeing.

I find myself more spiritually interested than being religious. I pray the rosary every day, but I find that I fail to do one thing and that is to learn more about the Tradition, the teachings of the Catholic Church, so that I could maybe one day share my knowledge spiritually and religiously to others.
